Learning Literacy en Masse: A Multi-Media Approach

Marcia Krawll, Dr Jaime Canfux Gutierrez, Dr. Rongo H. Wetere.

The Greenlight Learning for Life Programme is an Adult Literacy Education Programme, and most importantly a social programme that incorporates Maori culture, history and language. This programme is built upon the aims of Te Wananga o Aotearoa Tertiary Institution, the Latin American and Caribbean Pedagogical Institute, and the Ministry of Education in Cuba.

The main objective is to provide adults (16 years and older) with opportunities to develop and increase their abilities and capacities in English and numeracy.

The Greenlight Programme promotes skills in writing, reading, listening and comprehension including mathematical operations using the support of instructional video/DVD and audio cassette/CD. It is a very economical methodology of dealing with high literacy needs in English speaking countries.

This interactive workshop will demonstrate the use of these methods developed in partnership between Aotearoa (New Zealand) and Cuba.
