Learning as Acquisition or Learning as Participation?: Introduction and Background
Dr Ove Sandell.
Having presented my purpose and my methodical strive, this proposal describes information given by 24 interviewed pupils aged 16 to 24. Introducing their school stories that include some reading and/or writing difficulties, the pupils gave information about learning, education, goal of learning, about knowing, about the part og being a pupil and the part of being a teacher.
Theoretically the article refers to the contribution of Anna Sfard (1998) to the present debate on learning initiated by the editors of Educational Research, Volume 25, Number 4, 1996. Sfard (ibid) introduced an acquisition metaphor to emphasize her point of view of whether the struggle for a conceptual unification of research on learning between a cognitive learning story and a situated learning theory is a worthwhile endeavor.
