Using Multimedia to address issues of Cultural Difference: The Making Multicultural Australia Website

With the release of the CDROMs "Making MUlticultural Australia" in 1999, New South Wales schools were provided with a resource to build a depper udnerstanding of the processes of cultural diversity and the critical elements for multicultural citizenship. This paper examines the website launced in March 2004 that takes these ideas a stage further - into the development of learning objects for school and community education. The paper takes to form of a presentation and then roundtable examination of processes in research, content development and user uptake. Other practitioners/ researchers with an inetrest in multicultural education and new media are invited to contribute to the workshop.

Andrew Jakubowicz is Professor of Sociology at UTS, and a researcher with the Trans/forming Cultures Research Centre. He works on issues of cultural interaction and conflict, and in the uses of multimedia in transcultural development.
