Dr S. E. Audrey Lim, Mei Lee Ng.
This paper will present the findings of a research project entitled "Experiences in English in Preschool Settings: Support for Preschoolers' Language and Literacy Development." Specifically, data derived from a survey questionnaire, focus group interviews of preschool teachers and teacher-child interactions will be analysed to provide a perspective on the actual experiences of Hong Kong preschool children's English language/literacy development. The survey questionnaire and focus group interviews will provide insights into teacher beliefs and practices while the teacher-child interactions will provide data on preschoolers' English language/literacy development. Implications will be drawn from this study for preschool teachers and early childhood educators on strategies for the provision of early English language learning experiences.
