Beyond Patriotism in the New Millennium: Creating a New Vision for EducationLeo R. Sandy, Scott R. Meyer. Patriotism has been the standard of children’s socialization for centuries. Because schools have done little to prepare children for reponsibilities as world citizens, colonialism, social and economic injustice, militarism and war have been maintained. The current challenge is how to prepare students to develop perspectives that transcend geographical borders so as to promote world peace, human rights, and environmental preseveration.
